Jones Point Park: A Vibrant Past, A Bright Future

Goals of Park Design:

  • Improvements intended to balance natural, recreational and cultural resources
  • Integrate the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge as an integral element of the park's design
  • Protect and preserves much of the existing natural habitat
  • Improve its habitat qualities - such as woodlands, wetlands, tidal marsh areas and shoreline, and woodland groves
  • Provide both passive and active recreational amenities:
    • Pathways and trails, including the Mount Vernon Trail
    • Playground and tot-lot
    • Fishing access from piers and from the shoreline
    • Canoe/kayak launch ramp
  • Protect and preserve cultural and historical resources such as:
    • Lighthouse and District of Columbia Cornerstone Marker
    • Shipways
    • Finishing Pier
    • Provide interpretation of the natural and historic resources of the park through a comprehensive signage and wayside exhibit system
  • Provide for the continued use of the park by local residents through:
    • Enhancement of existing Mount Vernon Trail and pedestrian paths
    • Addition of two multi-use playing fields
    • Access to refurbished Jones Point Light House
    • New basketball courts
    • Comfort Station
    • Continued use of community gardens
